Named Associated Press Female Athlete of the Year for 2000. Holds dual citizenship from the USA and Belize. After years of accusations that she uses illegal substances, her "A" urine sample finally tested positive for a banned performance-enhancer at the USA Track and Field Championships in Indianapolis. If the "B" sample also turns up positive, she would be banned for two years (August 2006). After admitting to having taken steroids before the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, she surrendered her five medals from the games and announced her retirement from track and field (October 2007).
