Wednesday was a crushing night for "American Idol" hopeful Alexis Grace when she received the news that she was going home. Not only did it end her dream of becoming the next "American Idol," but by missing the Top 10 by one position, she will not even be a part of this summer's tour. On country night, Alexis chose to sing Dolly Parton's "Jolene." Judge Simon Cowell felt the song was too sound alike without a drop of originality. "I think it is one of those performances we will forget about in 10 minutes time," he added. Apparently he was on the money, since America voted and Alexis received the lowest number of votes. "I did consider doing a Carrie Underwood song, but there were already two other people singing Carrie Underwood," the 21-year-old from Memphis, TN tells ET. "I thought it would be too much Carrie Underwood in one night, so then I went with 'Jolene.' It is a really beautiful song. I love the lyrics and I love the singer." Being from Tennessee, Alexis says she feels like she let her state down to be ousted on country night, but she hopes to redeem herself in the near future. Now that her time on "Idol" has come to an end, she will be heading back home to spend some time with her family. "Being away from my daughter was tough," says the single mom. "I went from being a stay-at-home mom and being with her every day to not seeing her at all -- not hardly talking to her." When it comes to the future, Alexis says she is going to keep working on her dream of a music career -- at least until she is 50. And she is going to keep her edgy look, which she thinks was partially responsible for getting her into the Top 11, although she may switch up the pink highlights. "I learned that if you want to do anything in life, if you want to pursue a dream, you have to work hard at it and believe in yourself," she says.
