Cult author JG BALLARD has died following a longrunning battle with ill health. He was 78.The novelist, most famous for writing Crash and Empire of the Sun, on which the 1987 Steven Spielberg movie was based, passed away on Sunday (19Apr09).His agent, Margaret Hanbury, confirmed his death, stating Ballard had been ill "for several years".Empire
