"Desperate Housewives" actress Nicollette Sheridan tells TV Guide Magazine that killing off her character, Edie Britt, could have "devastating ramifications" for the show. She tells the publication of her character's relationship with the show's creator Marc Cherry, "I think whoever Edie represented in Marc’s life was somebody he didn’t like. And he had a very difficult time distinguishing between fact and fiction.” Nicollette says, for her, "Desperate Housewives" started to change. "When the show started it was such a different beast. It was exciting and dangerous and funny and edgy and bizarre. It started feeling a little complacent, and that was very frustrating.” Marc says the show has been having financial troubles and according to TV Guide Magazine, cutting Nicollette will save the show $100-$200,000 an episode. “There has been tremendous pressure put on me to cut costs…the network is saying to all the shows, ‘The company is really hurting financially. You must find a way to produce these shows more cheaply,'” he tells TV Guide Magazine. He continues, “Edie already slept with most of the guys on the street and has caused about as many problems as she could. … We will find a new kind of sexiness coming through Wisteria Lane. What I won’t do is cast another fortysomething sexy blonde. … [Nicollette] performed the aging neighborhood tramp better than anyone has ever done before.”

A jury has reportedly found music producer Phil Spector guilty of second-degree murder in the shooting death of actress Lana Clarkson six years ago. A Los Angeles Superior Court jury returned the verdict Monday afternoon after deliberating for about 30 hours, the Associated Press reports. Investigators found that Clarkson, 40, died of a gunshot fired in her mouth while visiting Spector's mansion in 2003. The defense had argued that she killed herself.   It was the second trial for Spector, 69, who was known for pioneering the "Wall of Sound" production technique in the 1960s. During the first trial in 2007, the jury deadlocked 10-2, favoring conviction.

Mel Gibson has filed a response to the divorce petition filed earlier by his estranged wife Robyn. The actor filed papers Monday that declare the couple's date of separation as August 26, 2006 and he also cites "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split. In the papers, Gibson is asking to terminate the court's ability to award spousal support to either party, and he is seeking joint legal and joint physical custody of the couple's children. After 28 years of marriage, the star's wife filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the separation from the actor.  She also seeks joint physical and legal custody of their youngest son Thomas, who turns 10 tomorrow. According to a statement from Mel's rep released on the actor's behalf, "Throughout our marriage and separation we have always strived to maintain the privacy and integrity of our family and will continue to do so." A source tells ET the couple has been separated for nearly three years. Mel and Robyn have 7 children: Hannah, twins Edward and Christian, William, Louis, Milo and Thomas, who is the only minor.
