The "Kill Bill" actress - who has two children, nine-year-old Maya and six-year-old Roan, with the actor - was determined to have a career as well as a family but Ethan told her it was impossible.

The New York-based star said: "He claimed I couldn't be a full-time mother and actress and I always insisted I could. But I couldn't."

"I really try to give all of myself. I wouldn't even read a script that wasn't shooting in New York because I needed to be home."

Uma eventually split from Ethan in 2003 and filed for divorce in 2004. She is now reportedly engaged to banker Arpad Busson but admits the dating game can be hard work.
