PETA sure knows how to grab headlines. The animal rights group says it thinks it knows what's behind Britney Spears mental troubles.

PETA president Ingrid Newkirk has written to Spears' parents, saying the star's excessive meat and diary intake could be to blame.

"We have heard that Britney asked for ice-cream while she was in the hospital. There could, in fact, be a connection between her diet and her mental-health problems," Newkirk wrote.
