Barack Obama made history Wednesday as he formally won the Democratic Party's nomination for president -- making him the first African American to lead a major party ticket. Obama made a surprise speech in Denver at the DNC, his first on-stage appearance at the convention with VP running mate Sen. Joe Biden. In his speech, the Democratic presidential nominee praised his wife Michelle for her DNC speech, saying she "kicked it off pretty well." Obama also commended former competitor Sen. Hillary Clinton. "If I'm not mistaken, Hillary Clinton rocked the house down last night!" he told the enthusiastic crowd. He also publicly thanked former President Bill Clinton for being "a president who actually puts people first." Obama is expected to make a substantial speech Thursday night at the DNC, which he announced will be moved to Invesco Field at Mile High to accommodate a larger crowd. To prepare for Thursday night, Obama is said to be looking at the nomination speeches of former Presidents Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan and John F. Kennedy, the Associated Press reports.

"The Insider" has confirmed that Hilary Duff father, Robert Duff, was arrested for contempt of court Wednesday and sent by a judge to a Texas county jail.   A Harris County Police deputy tells us that Duff's bond is at $368,000 and no court date has been set. The Houston Chronicle says that Duff is being held in contempt of court for allegedly violating an injunction by selling assets without court approval. According to the paper, the injunction was set into place as part of a 2 ½ year divorce case between the starlet's father and mother. Duff was reportedly required to obtain court approval before selling assets.

"The Insider" confirms that actress Mackenzie Phillips has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance after being stopped at Los Angeles International Airport.   Airport police confirmed that Phillips, 48, was held in custody at LAX after security screeners allegedly discovered "what appeared to be heroin and cocaine" in her possession.  She was booked into jail in Van Nuys on a felony drug possession charge, with bail set at $10,000, according to an airport police spokesman. Phillips' agent had no on the incident.  Phillips, who gained fame on the 1970s sitcom "One Day at a Time," was reportedly later fired from the show for drug abuse. She has publicly spoken about her battle with drugs and her sobriety.

"The Insider"'s Cheryl Woodcock goes one-on-one with Ben Affleck who is flexing his political muscle in Denver by supporting charity causes during the Democratic National Convention.
