Destiny's Child singer Michelle Williams is to join the Chicago production of the musical The Colour Purple.

26-year-old Williams will play blues singer Shug Avery when the Broadway production tours Chicago in April.

"This is just a dream come true. I could not pass up the opportunity to do The Color Purple. To have the privilege of even auditioning was an honour for me," Williams says.
