Veteran filmmaker Mel Brooks has coped with the death of his wife Anne Bancroft by recalling his time as a soldier during World War II. The director survived life as an engineer in North Africa during the war by living from "one hedgerow to the next", and he's adopted the same attitude since Bancroft died of uterine cancer in August.
