Liza Minnelli played the character Sally Bowles, the sexually liberated cabaret singer who painted her fingernails green and performed at the seedy Kit Kat Klub in Berlin during the Weimar Republic. Liza's own life has been something of a cabaret, and her recent well-publicized wedding was a three-ring circus of celebrities from a fading era. Liza Minnelli, the daughter of two of Hollywood's Golden Era's leading personalities, was born famous. Her mother, Judy Garland, is best remembered as Dorothy in 1939's The Wizard of Oz. Liza's father, Vincente Minnelli, won a Best Director Oscar for 1958's Gigi. Liza followed in the footsteps of her singing/dancing/acting mom, and is best remembered for her appearance in 1972's Cabaret, for which she won her own Oscar.

Veteran singer/actress Liza Minnelli has been battling alcoholism for three decades - and continues to struggle with her addiction on a daily basis. The Cabaret star didn't sip her first drink until she was 30 - but eight years later, Minnelli had developed a substance abuse problem and was forced to acknowledge she was an addict.
