Dolly Parton's a good ol' country gal from the smoky hills of Tennessee, who's made good on her career in Nashville, Hollywood and internationally. Her infectious Southern charm and accent are irresistible. Parton first gained national notice hosting her own syndicated television variety show back in the '70s. After a decade as a country star, she crossed over to the mainstream with hits such as "9 to 5" and "Islands In The Stream" during the early '80s. The star-studded 63rd Annual Tony Awards kicked off at New York City's Radio City Music Hall on Sunday night with a bevy of stars performing, including Dolly Parton and Elton John. Read on to see who the big winners were on Broadway's biggest night … The show, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, began with an opening number that featured performances by Liza Minnelli, Dolly Parton, Elton John, metal band Poison, and the cast of several different productions. Poison lead singer Bret Michaels hit his head at the end of his band’s performance in the opening number. It is unclear whether he was injured or not. Other stars who appeared at the awards show included Anne Hathaway, James Gandolfini, Jessica Lange, and Stockard Channing. It was British musical Billy Elliot that took top honors at the Tonys, winning 10 awards, including Best Musical and Leading Actor in a Musical -- an award that went to three young actors who share the role, David Alvarez, Trent Kowalik and Kiril Kulish. The musical, which follows the son of a coal miner who dreams of becoming a dancer, also won Best Director of a Musical (Stephen Daldry), among other awards. God of Carnage, a comedy by Yasmina Reza, won Best Play, best Lead Actress in a Play (Marcia Gay Harden), and Best Direction of a Play (Matthew Warchus). Geoffrey Rush took the award for best Leading Actor in a Play for his role playing a dying monarch in Exit the King, while Angela Lansbury took home an award in the best Featured Actress category for Blithe Spirit. A surprised Liza Minnelli won Special Theatrical Event for Liza's at The Palace.

Wednesday was a crushing night for "American Idol" hopeful Alexis Grace when she received the news that she was going home. Not only did it end her dream of becoming the next "American Idol," but by missing the Top 10 by one position, she will not even be a part of this summer's tour. On country night, Alexis chose to sing Dolly Parton's "Jolene." Judge Simon Cowell felt the song was too sound alike without a drop of originality. "I think it is one of those performances we will forget about in 10 minutes time," he added. Apparently he was on the money, since America voted and Alexis received the lowest number of votes. "I did consider doing a Carrie Underwood song, but there were already two other people singing Carrie Underwood," the 21-year-old from Memphis, TN tells ET. "I thought it would be too much Carrie Underwood in one night, so then I went with 'Jolene.' It is a really beautiful song. I love the lyrics and I love the singer." Being from Tennessee, Alexis says she feels like she let her state down to be ousted on country night, but she hopes to redeem herself in the near future. Now that her time on "Idol" has come to an end, she will be heading back home to spend some time with her family. "Being away from my daughter was tough," says the single mom. "I went from being a stay-at-home mom and being with her every day to not seeing her at all -- not hardly talking to her." When it comes to the future, Alexis says she is going to keep working on her dream of a music career -- at least until she is 50. And she is going to keep her edgy look, which she thinks was partially responsible for getting her into the Top 11, although she may switch up the pink highlights. "I learned that if you want to do anything in life, if you want to pursue a dream, you have to work hard at it and believe in yourself," she says.
