Why is she special?
Tara Lipinski shocked the figure skating world and became the darling of the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics when she won gold on a magical February night in Japan. So diminutive in size, the hometown girl from Sugarland, Texas became the adorable girl next door, with her constant smile and outgoing personality. From her emergence onto the skating scene in 1994, to her departure from the amateur ranks in 1998, Lipinski is always a champion.

Why we know her?
When you're 15 years old and you come from rural Texas, the last place you'd imagine being is on ice. On figure skates. In Japan. At the Olympics. On the podium. At the top. Winning gold. But with two masterful performances in the short and long programs, Lipinski became the youngest Winter Olympic individual gold medalist ever. By the end of 1998, after deciding to end her amateur career, Lipinski became a regular on the Stars On Ice tour, wrote her autobiography, and appeared on a number of hit television shows.
