Olympic figure skating champion in the ladies' singles event in 1984 and 1988. Chosen by People magazine as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the world (1990). Longtime companion of actor Richard Dean Anderson in the 1990s. Was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame (1995). Made a one-year comeback to the competitive skating scene, appearing at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, where she finished 7th. Won the Jim Thorpe Pro Sports Award for her athletic achievements (1995). Gold medalist at the European Figure Skating Championships in six consecutive years from 1983 to 1988.
