Alexa Ray Joel is going back to school to study psychology following her apparent suicide attempt.

Alexa - the 23-year-old daughter of 'Piano Man' singer Billy Joel and ex-wife Christie Brinkley - was rushed to hospital last month after reportedly taking an overdose of pills but has now said she plans to go back into education to study because she wants to help other young women who find themselves in the same position.
Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley have released a joint statement about their daughter, Alexa Ray's recent hospitalization to "The Insider." Joel and Brinkley's statement, which criticizes the New York Post, reads: "Every parent can imagine the pain and anguish we face as parents of a daughter who is working to recover from the dangerous actions she took while suffering a devastating heartbreak. As much as we hate dignifying tabloid stories with a response, we feel we must set the record straight to protect our family. The story that ran in the New York Post on December 8th, and has been subsequently spread across the internet, is filled with vicious lies and attempts to smear our character and that of our beloved daughter. We ask the public and legitimate media outlets to please ‘consider the source’ and to not further exacerbate our daughter’s situation by repeating and legitimizing these false reports." Alexa Ray spent several hours at St. Vincent's Hospital in New York last Saturday after reportedly consuming pills.

"The Insider" has a health update on Alexa Ray Joel, after she was admitted and released from a New York City hospital over the weekend. The daughter to Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley released the following statement to "The Insider" that reads, "I want to thank everyone for their outpouring of love and support." Alexa Ray spent several hours at St. Vincent's Hospital on Saturday after reportedly taking some pills. Her spokesperson tells "The Insider," "Alexa is feeling much better. She is with her family and looking forward to getting back on track."

Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley's daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, has been hospitalized in New York. ET confirms that the NYPD and FDNY responded to an aided case at an apartment around 12:21 p.m. on Saturday. The FDNY tells us they transported a female from the apartment to a Manhattan hospital because she wasn’t feeling well. The incident is still under investigation. A law enforcement official speaking on the condition of anonymity tells the Associated Press that a friend of the 23-year-old singer dialed 911 from Joel’s apartment and said Joel had consumed several pills. Joel's publicist tells the AP she was hospitalized due to an undisclosed condition. She is receiving treatment and is in stable condition, the publicist adds.

Christie Brinkley's attorney, Peter Coronia, told "The Insider" in a statement that his client is "completely vindicated." The model and her ex-husband Peter Cook were scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday to settle a dispute regarding custody issues with their children. Cook filed a motion, requesting that Brinkley "undergo anger management, for the appointment of a parenting coordinator, and for the children's passports to be held by a third party." Coronia says that none of these requests are included in the settlement agreed upon by both parties. Brinkley has withdrawn her counterclaims to Cook's allegations "in an effort to put this all behind her." She hopes that she and Cook can progress forward for the benefit of their children.
