Is the oldest of five children born to an American father and a Japanese mother. She grew up in Oregon. Her father is of French, Scotch-Irish, and Amerindian descent. She grew up in Ashland, Oregon, USA. Ann was born in Guam to American and Japanese parents. Her family moved often until they finally settled down in Ashland, Oregon where Ann was eventually brought up. Husband Brian Ross is a software executive. 1978 graduate of the University of Oregon School of Journalism.
