Mother was a bookkeeper in an ophthalmologist's office According to an interview, MTV projected the budget for Araki's TV series pilot This Is How the World Ends to be $1.5 million. Instead of giving him that amount, they only gave him $700,000 and were hoping find partners to finance the difference. Araki offered to make the pilot for $700,000 and MTV took him up on it. After the pilot was shot, it was not picked up for broadcast.
