Sophie Ellis-Bextor has given birth to a baby boy nine weeks early. The "Groovejet" singer - who was not due to have the tot until April - gave birth to her 2lb 2oz son after being struck down with the potentially life-threatening pregnancy illness pre-eclampsia.

Sophie's mother - former "Blue Peter" presenter Janet Ellis - revealed: "Sophie has just had her second little boy. He was early, nine weeks early, but he is doing fine. He is doing very well."
