Children: Christopher Daniel (2 February 1988-19 January 1989), twins Sakias Manuel and Larissa Maria (b. 7 April 1990) with actor Benedict Freitag, Samuel Vincent (b. 18 May 1995) and Simeon (b. 22 May 1997) with musician Philipp Palm.
Lives in Hamburg with her partner Philipp Palm, a drummer, and her four children.
After performing with Jörn-Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen, Jürgen Dehmel and Karlo Carges in her band "Nena" from 1981 to 1987, she has been a solo artist.
"Nena" has been her nickname ever since she was 3 years old. It is a version of the Spanish word "niña" (little girl).
Her son Sakias became a father of a son, Noah, on 27 December 2009.
