Nancy Kerrigan's brother Mark has a history of abuse, according to his ex-wife Janet. Mark was arrested on charges of assault this past weekend for an alleged altercation prior to the death of his father. Janet says their marriage turned abusive. "Did I think that Mark could ever kill me? That thought went through my head. Quite often. Did I think he was capable of killing somebody? Absolutely," she tells NECN. Mark was arrested on assault charges -- more than once -- and spent time in jail during their troubled marriage, but she says the Kerrigan family never believed her claims of abuse. "Because the biggest thing with the family was [they thought] I married him because he was a Kerrigan. I had no idea when I first met him who he was." When she heard the news of Daniel Kerrigan's death, "My heart broke," she says, "because there was no need for Danny to die that way." The couple divorced in 2007.

"The Insider" has the latest... The Massachusetts state police tell "The Insider" that Nancy Kerrigan's brother Mark, who was charged with assault after his and Nancy's father Daniel died following their alleged altercation, will not be allowed to attend Daniel's funeral.  The ceremony will reportedly take place on Thursday. The police tell "The Insider" that the jail sent Mark to a psychiatric facility because they felt he was a danger to himself and that it is policy, not law, that prevents Mark from attending the funeral. Daniel's autopsy report will be made public in two weeks.

In the wake of Nancy Kerrigan's father's death and the arrest of her brother on Sunday, the skating champ's figure-skating peers have reportedly reached out to her to share their condolences. People reports that Kristi Yamaguchi sent Kerrigan her condolences via text mail. According to the mag, Kerrigan replied, "Thank you…I appreciate all the support I've been getting." "I am so saddened for Nancy," Yamaguchi said. "My heart goes out to Nancy and her family." Yamaguchi went on to tell People: "Nancy is part of our family and the loss of a parent is devastating. I always smile when I think of Dan [Kerrigan] because he was a lot of fun and he had such pride for his daughter and her accomplishments. That meant a lot to Nancy. He and Brenda [Kerrigan] were always there for her." Olympic silver medalist Paul Wylie tells People he spoke with Kerrigan over the phone on Monday. "She was really struggling," Wylie told People. "But she called to thank me for calling." Wylie recalled his memories of Kerrigan's parents, telling the mag, "He and Brenda touched many skaters' lives…One day he visited me at my apartment and said, 'That window needs fixing and if you do it this way, it'll save you $20 on your heating bill.' He was fatherly like that. Dan was a great guy and a family man." Kerrigan's father Daniel died at the age of 70 after an alleged altercation on Sunday with the skating champ's brother Mark Kerrigan, who was arrested and is facing assault charges related to the incident.
