Nancy Kerrigan's emotional sit-down with our own Samantha Harris continues as she opens up about the controversy surrounding her father Daniel's death less than three weeks ago. At times tearful, Nancy says that she and her mother Brenda stand behind her brother Mark. On January 24, Nancy and her family's world came crashing down when Daniel Kerrigan passed away after an alleged altercation with his son Mark. Mark is being evaluated at a mental hospital after being arrested on assault and battery charges, but what exactly happened inside their home has yet to be revealed. Nancy and her family have written a letter disagreeing with the medical examiner's finding that Daniel's death was a homicide. She insists that her father died from natural causes. "He smoked since he was 13 -- you know, that's a long time," says Nancy. "It was cool and okay when he was a kid, you know? Very different -- there were no warnings back then on the package or anything." Nancy is not dwelling on the circumstances surrounding her father's death, but instead is choosing to celebrate his life. "I've never met someone that didn't like him, ever. It's amazing," she says. "I mean, there's always people that don't like you. That's normal. It is hard to please everybody, and somehow he did. He really did." Asked what she'll miss most about him, she replies, "I don't think there's the most. There's just too much to narrow it down. So there is just a lot to miss. He was a great, great man." "The Insider" has the latest... "The Insider" has the exclusive first interview with Olympic skater Nancy Kerrigan since the tragic death of her father Daniel, who passed away last month. "This is really hard, scary," she tells our Samantha Harris. "It's hard to live without my dad. But I’m lucky and blessed that he taught us how to stand strong and move on and still laugh." She says her father had too many wonderful qualities to choose just one that she misses the most. "There’s a lot to miss," she says. "He was a great, great man." Priding herself in the fact that her father was loved by everybody, she says that she'd often find him playing on the floor with all of his grandkids. "He often would leave the adult conversations to join the kids," she tells Samantha. "He liked hanging out with them and playing with them. It was easy for him to be with the kids." She says that despite Daniel's death being ruled a homicide, she and her family are standing by her brother Mark, who's accused of allegedly assaulting her father prior to his heart attack, even revealing that she has seen her brother a couple of times. "He’s grieving, this is his dad too," she says. "Nobody had enough time with him."

Nancy Kerrigan has issued a letter to her friends and fans following the tragic death of her father Daniel Kerrigan. The letter reads in part: "Dear Friends, The last several weeks have been the most difficult of my life. As many of you who ever met my dad know, he was someone who took an interest in everyone that he came in contact with and, if he knew you much at all, had an endearing wisecrack that would be sure to make you laugh. For me, he was my safety net. He was always there for me no matter what turn the world might take. He was a friend to Jerry and a doting grandpa to our kids. For my mother, he was much more than that. He was her eyes, her confidante, her dance partner, her life partner. In short, he was her everything. For my brothers, he was the ultimate role model: the guy they continue to try to emulate. And his impact spread far beyond our family. Over 2,000 people lined up in 20 degree weather and stood for over 3 hours to pay their last respects. From the pizza delivery guy to the bank teller to millionaire business people to congressmen, he was a friend to everyone and had a special place in each one’s life. The stories we heard about my dad, from childhood friends to recent acquaintances were funny and touching. Most of all, they make us proud. We will miss my dad every day. Whether it is hearing him tell the kids one of his silly stories or watching him roll his eyes as he goes to the market for the fourth time that afternoon or having a beer with him at the end of the day. Mainly, we will miss just knowing he is there..." Daniel Kerrigan passed away this past January. He was 70.

Nancy Kerrigan's brother Mark has a history of abuse, according to his ex-wife Janet. Mark was arrested on charges of assault this past weekend for an alleged altercation prior to the death of his father. Janet says their marriage turned abusive. "Did I think that Mark could ever kill me? That thought went through my head. Quite often. Did I think he was capable of killing somebody? Absolutely," she tells NECN. Mark was arrested on assault charges -- more than once -- and spent time in jail during their troubled marriage, but she says the Kerrigan family never believed her claims of abuse. "Because the biggest thing with the family was [they thought] I married him because he was a Kerrigan. I had no idea when I first met him who he was." When she heard the news of Daniel Kerrigan's death, "My heart broke," she says, "because there was no need for Danny to die that way." The couple divorced in 2007.
