Her death in 1959 was a bizarre suicide after years of alcoholism and failed attempts to revive her stalled career. Alone in her Venice, California apartment she gathered together reams of publicity stills and promotional material from her early career and set it alight, allowing herself also to be consumed by the flames. She died later of her injuries.
