Her father Bernhard was concert-master of the NDR Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg, her mother a singer and music educator. Was given the Cross of Merit, First class (one of Germany`s most important decorations) in 1993 and became honorary commissioner of the Bavarian police for her role on "Adelheid und ihre Mörder" (1993) in 1998. After attending acting lessons at the Hamburg University of Music and the Performing Arts, she started her stage career at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg (1968). Was also a noted voice actress, reading crime novels of Patricia Highsmith and several other audio books. Always wanted to be an actress and started acting at the Thalia Theater in Hamburg while still in school. Loriot started writing parts especially for Evelyn Hamann which presented her with a top position among the actors of 'Loriot I - VI.'. Moved on to the 'green sofa' in 1978 to host 'Loriot V and VI' together with Vicco von Bülow.
