A 40-year-old man, Chris Orr, who is a caretaker at Tippi Hedren's Shambala Preserve was mauled by a four-year-old Bengal Tiger who wears almost 450 lbs. A rep for the preserve says Orr suffered multiple scratches and one full bit to the neck. The caretaker who is in critical but stable condition has reportedly worked at Shambala for 20 years and does not want the tiger killed because of the incident.
If you're unsure where you know Tippi Hedren from, she's best known for her starring role in the Alfred Hitchcock film The Birds. For many years, she has been pushing legislation that would be tough on people who have tigers as pets and also prevent commercial breeding of the animals. In 2000, Hedren, her daughter Melanie Griffith, and actress Bo Derek spoke out on the issue at a congressional hearing as all three have been attacked by tigers before.
I don't get why people want wild animals as pets. It doesn't matter if they're beautiful to look at, they're meant to be in the wild. I guess having a dog is too boring for some.
