Nagra was born to Sikh immigrants from the Punjab region of northern India. Her middle name, meaning "Princess," is traditionally given to Sikh women.

Nagra recalls her years growing up in the Belgrave district of Leicester as a "great childhood."

Nagra attended Northfield House Primary School in Leicester, where as a six-year-old she was in her first play, War of the Worlds.

At the age of seven, Nagra suffered a burn that resulted in a scar on her leg ; the scar was later incorporated into the story line of her 2002 breakout film Bend It Like Beckham.

Well it helps me to realise that us normal looking guys can get such a beauty - though it does help when you got cash!

And what's up with her Sikh heritage? So she married a white guy and yes he shaves and cuts his hair, but does that mean that he does not follow her traditions? My wife is telugu and I'm white but follow the hindu faith as well as my own. Besides, how many Sikhs are there that cut their hair, drink alcohol, eat meat and still claim their heritage and religion. Don't be so small minded.
