Reuters - With media attention focused on turmoil at other network newscasts, NBC's top-rated morning show is quietly weighing its own shake-up as co-host Meredith Vieira considers a future without "Today."
During the "Today" show on Tuesday morning a man hurled himself over a barricade intended to separate fans from the show's reporters. "We're certainly awake now," said Meredith Vieira, safely inside the studio after the mishap. "We're very lucky that we have great security here that's on hand everyday and also the New York City Police Department, so they were able to get him down on the ground very quickly." Later "Today" tweeted, "Thanks to everyone for concern. Meredith, Willie Geist & Al Roker just spoke about incident. Everyone is fine." At the time of the disruption, Meredith was accompanied by Al and Willie, introducing a piece featuring Mackenzie Phillips. "Today" airs weekdays on NBC. The NYPD tells "The Insider" that a man who was emotionally disturbed jumped the barricade and was not arrested, but rather taken to Roosevelt Hospital for a psych evaluation.

The morning after his win on "Celebrity Apprentice," Bret Michaels talks about his road to recovery following a life threatening brain hemorrhage and several other serious health conditions. Bret was told by his doctors that it was a risk for him to attend the live finale of "Celebrity Apprentice" in New York City, but he did it anyway. He explains to "Today" show correspondent Meredith Vieira of his decision to attend, "I'm so happy to have been there. ... I'm not back 100 percent but ... I have to have a goal." As for returning to the stage, Bret plans to perform in Mississippi this weekend. He says of touring, "I don't know that I'm ready yet. I'm going to take it in baby steps. I'm going to do a show and see how it goes." The Poison rocker adds, "I'm ready to get out of the hospital and on the road. ... I'm ready to rock. We'll see what happens."

Reality mom Kate Gosselin says she regrets some of the things she says, especially in regard to her ex-husband Jon Gosselin.   "Much of what I said to Jon was unwarranted. I could have guarded my tongue better," she admits in her latest book -- a sentiment brought to light on day two of her interview on the "Today" show. "I learned that in the heat of the moment I have a sharp tongue," she told Meredith Vieira during their interview Wednesday. "Looking back there are probably a lot of people that I love that I probably spoke to inappropriately. Those are the people that are beside you to support you and love you. I've really learned to watch what I say." Kate's new book, I Just Want You to Know, hits bookshelves today, April 13.

Reality star Kate Gosselin says she's not an absentee mother but rather a working mother. Kate's ex Jon Gosselin is seeking primary custody of their children following the mother-of-eight's decision to perform on "Dancing with the Stars." He's claiming she's no longer available to their children. "I've got to work harder than ever because I'm a single mom," she tells "Today" show host Meredith Vieira on Tuesday. "In my heart I'm always in my kitchen baking and cooking for my kids. ... I have to work. I have to provide for them." The reality star says since the divorce the kids remain strong and loving. She tells Meredith, "I don't see any negative they've taken from this. If anything I see the kids and I becoming so much closer and they're more open to me." As for the rumors that she's a diva on the set of "DWTS," Kate says she's having a great time with her celebrity peers, telling the morning show that she plans on staying in touch with the other dancers. As for her fans who have kept her performing despite the judges' harsh words, she says, "To them, I say thank you so much for caring and believing in me." Kate's new book I Just Want You to Know hits bookshelves today, April 13.

Following a dramatic five-year custody battle, David Goldman reunited with his son Sean in Brazil on Christmas Eve and tells the "Today" show that he and his son will "heal." When Sean was four, David's then-wife took their son on a two-week trip to Brazil but never returned. David's wife then divorced him and married a prominent lawyer. She passed away last year and her Brazilian husband then tried to adopt Sean, but Brazilian courts eventually ruled that Sean must be returned to Goldman, his father. Cameras captured a mob scene on Thursday, Dec. 24, as Sean, 9, was led by his stepfather to the U.S. consulate in Rio de Janeiro to be reunited with his father. David talked to "Today" show host Meredith Vieira about the emotional reunion after his grueling fight to get Sean back, saying, "It’s a miracle. ... There [were] 364 other days that [it] could’ve been, if he ever were going to come home. But it was Christmas Eve. Somebody's up there for sure. That's amazing.” “There are no words to describe the pain and suffering these last five years. And there's no words to describe how joyous and wonderful it is to be with my son again.” As for whether Sean is calling him "dad" again, David says he hasn't really called him anything. "I think he's struggling with that. I said, ‘You can call me dad.’ And he didn't say anything.” David expressed his concern for Sean because he did not seem emotional during the handover. “It would be natural for him to be crying. It would be normal for him to be crying,” David said. “There's got to be pain. There's got to be pain hidden in there. I know I have it. My mission, my focus is to be with him and to help him and to reestablish our father-and-son bond.”

Aspiring "Real Housewives" reality stars Tareq and Michaele Salahi have released emails through their attorneys that, they say, proves that they were invited to the White House State Dinner. The emails, obtained by the "Today" show, show the couple corresponded with a top Defense Department official in the days leading up to the elite event that took place last Tuesday, Nov. 24. Tareq and Michaele sent an email to Michele Jones, Special Assistant to the Secretary of Defense White House Liaison, thanking her for their invitation. They received a message back from Jones, reading, "You are most welcome! I here (sic) the smile in your email and am delighted that you and Michaele had a wonderful time. ... Have an extraordinary Thanksgiving and many blessings to you both." Vice President Joe Biden reacted on the "Today" show to meeting Tareq and Michaele at the dinner, saying, "I didn't [know who they were] until I saw the pictures. ... I just assumed, like everyone else, that they were guests." Biden took a picture with the couple of which they later posted on their joint Facebook account. The vice president said that he was new to the Washington social scene since he's always been commuting in the past but told "Today" show anchor Meredith Vieira that he was "completely satisfied" with the Secret Service.

The gloves are off as Jon and Kate Gosselin near divorce court. Most recently, Kate continues to accuse her estranged husband Jon of removing $230,000 from their joint bank account, saying she is no longer able to pay the family's bills. “He took $230,000 of the $231,000 we had,” the reality show mom told "Today" show host Meredith Vieira. "I have a stack of bills. The last thing I wanted was to do this show and end up not being able to pay our bills." Kate said of Jon's decisions, “He has gone way far off the trail ... Obviously, I am very upset. I can’t sleep at night. I can’t pay my bills. I think he’s receiving bad advice. I think he’s making bad decisions.” Never did I think I’d be back in the position of not being able to provide for [my kids]." The mother-of-eight also revealed that she too removed money from the joint bank account, withdrawing $100,000 for safe keeping. “I had taken $100,000 and put it aside safely so I could buy my kids food if needed,” she told Vieira. She added that she returned the money back to the account because, she says, the couple's separation agreement forbids them from removing funds from the account without the consent of the other. As for the claims made by Jon that the Gosselin kids no longer want to continue the family's TLC reality show, Kate said the kids reacted to this report with "wailing and sobbing," adding, “[They] love our crew. The "Jon & Kate Plus 8" children were photographed playing outside their Reading, Pennsylvania home, but neither Jon Gosselin nor his wife Kate were present. The kids were being supervised by a young nanny. The Gosselin girls and boys rode their bikes and scooters around the yard, some of them carrying backpacks and toys. Kate was on the "Today" show Monday morning, where she explained why she's still wearing her wedding ring after announcing that she is separated from her husband. "I don't want to upset [the kids]," she told "Today" show host Meredith Vieira. "I just feel that is the best thing for them, to walk slowly through it." "It's very hurtful," the mother of eight tells Vieira of Jon's behavior. "To be very honest, the most hurtful part is when his decisions directly affect our children. That's the hardest part for me."

"Britain's Got Talent" contestant Susan Boyle may have leaped into the limelight, but she still gets star struck when meeting her music inspirations. In an interview with "Today Show" host Meredith Vieira, a glamorous Boyle was surprised with a special message from her childhood idol Donny Osmond. “Susan, congratulations on all of your success,” Osmond said via remote hookup. “It’s wonderful what’s happening with your career, and good luck with this new record that you’re doing. Someday, I make a prediction, you and I will do a record together, where we make ‘Puppy Love.’" An excited Boyle agreed. Following her conversation with Osmond, she was then surprised on set by musical theater star Elaine Page. Boyle exclaimed when she saw Page, “Gosh, but it's a thrill for me to at last meet you, because I have been wanting to say hello and to meet you for some time now. So at last these lovely people have given me the opportunity to come and say hello to you.” Page responded, “You captured the imagination of the world.” As for Boyle's own fame and media frenzy, she says it was a lot like a demolition ball. “The impact — like a demolition ball. And anyone who has that kind of impact finds it really hard to get a head around it. I’ve got to be honest here. I guess I had to get my head around it, but through the guidance of a great team — and they are very good — I was able to see that in perspective and really turn that around a little.”

President Barack Obama reacted jokingly this morning to some thrown at him by the fashion police regarding the blue jeans he wore at the All-Star game. "Michelle, she looks fabulous. I'm a little frumpy," he laughs with "Today Show" host Meredith Vieira. "A few years ago I only had four suits. [Michelle] used to tease me because they'd get real shiny." As for his dungarees, Obama says he's keeping them. "I hate to shop. Those jeans are comfortable." He also offers a funny message to America in defense of his style, "For those of you who want your President to look great in his tight jeans, I'm sorry. I'm not the guy."
