Laura Ling 'overwhelmed' By Support, Thanks Public
Laura Ling took to her Facebook page Wednesday to express her gratitude for being back home. The newly freed journalist, who is the sister of TV journalist Lisa Ling, posted the following message on her profile on the social networking Web site: "Thank you, thank you, thank you to EVERYONE! I am so overwhelmed by the support we’ve received. I’m incredibly exhausted, but feel so fortunate to be free again." Following a visit from President Bill Clinton on Tuesday, Laura Ling and Euna Lee were issued a "special pardon" from the North Korean government, and arrived home on Wednesday morning. Laura Ling: The Past 140 Days Have Been The Most Difficult, Heart-wrenching Times Of Our Lives
"The Insider" has the latest... Just moments after freed American journalists Euna Lee and Laura Ling landed in Burbank, CA, Ling spoke to the crowd saying, "the past 140 days have been the most difficult heart-wrenching times of our lives." Ling reveals how she and Euna found out they would be coming home. "We feared that at any moment we could be sent to a hard labor camp and suddenly we were told we were going to a meeting and we were taken to a location and we walked through the doors we saw standing before us, President Bill Clinton," she said. "We were shocked. But we knew instantly in our heart that the nightmare of our lives was finally coming to and end and now we stand here home and free. "Euna and I would like to express our deepest gratitude towards Bill Clinton ... to our loved ones, friends, colleagues, and to the complete strangers with the kindness of hearts who showed up so much love and sent u so many positive thought and energy. We could feel your love all the way in the North Korea -- it's what kept us going." Laura said that after nearly five months away, she and Euna just wanted to spend quality time with their families. "We are so anxious right now to spend some quiet private time to get reacquainted with our families." Meanwhile, President Obama spoke about the women returning home. "The two young journalists are safely back with their families we are extraordinarily relieved," he said from the White House. The reunion is a source of happiness not only for families but for the entire country."[Read full story on The Insider]
Gov. Schwarzenegger Calls For Release Of Journalists
Calif. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is calling for the release of two California journalists, one of them being the sister of reporter and former "The View" co-host Lisa Ling. Read on for details … Gov. Schwarzenegger released the following statement about Laura Ling and Euna Lee, who were sentenced to 12 years of labor prison by North Korea's Central Court: "Maria [Shriver] and I were saddened to learn of the sentencing of Laura Ling and Euna Lee. In addition to sending them our deepest thoughts and prayers, California stands ready to offer any resources and assistance the federal government may need to bring these two journalists home safely. Journalism is a vital part of freedom and democracy, and we are all indebted to the men and women who risk their lives around the world to dig beneath the surface to uncover the real stories. We must work to ensure the safety of journalists who search for the truth in parts of the world where the press does not enjoy the freedom it deserves." The Central Court, the highest court of North Korea, held a trial for the two women from Thursday to Monday and convicted them of "committing hostilities against the Korean nation and illegal entry," the New York Times reports.[Read full story on The Insider]
Lisa Ling 'devastated' By Sister's Sentencing
"The Insider" has obtained a statement from the families of journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee in response to the news that the two journalists were sentenced to 12 years hard labor for illegal entry into North Korea. "The families of Laura Ling and Euna Lee are shocked and devastated by the outcome their trial," the families said in a statement to "The Insider." "Laura and Euna are journalists who went to the China-North Korea border to do a job. We don't know what really happened on March 17, but if they wandered across the border without permission, we apologize on their behalf and we are certain that they have also apologized." "We believe that the three months they have already spent under arrest with little communication with their families is long enough," they go on to say. "We ask the Government of North Korea to show compassion and grant Laura and Euna clemency and allow them to return home to their families." The two families tell us they are "very concerned about their mental state and well being," adding that they fear that Ling, who suffers from a stomach ulcer, may have her condition "be exacerbated by the drastic sentence." The families also reveal that Lee's 4-year-old daughter has been showing "anguish over the absence of her mother." The Central Court, the highest court of North Korea, held a trial for the two women from Thursday to Monday and convicted them of "committing hostilities against the Korean nation and illegal entry," the New York Times reports.[Read full story on The Insider]

Oprah's Emotional Breakdown Over Her Cocker Spaniel
Oprah has dedicated today's show to her beloved cocker spaniel Sophie, who passed away last month at the age of 13. Sophie had been suffering from kidney failure. It's been an especially hard year for Oprah, pup-wise, as she lost her other dog Gracie in July when she chocked on a plastic ball. Today's show is on puppy mills, and contributor Lisa Ling presents what's said to be a great ? but hard to watch ? documentary on the mills. Oprah's staff decided to surprise her by opening the show with a tribute to Sophie featuring movies and photos. Unfortunately they didn't realize just how emotional it would make her, and they had to stop filming after she completely broke down. That's so sweet and sad. Clearly Oprah's staff members were well-intentioned. People love their animals differently, but it's pretty clear that Oprah's dogs are her kids. There must be this bittersweet relationship with them, knowing that she'll likely outlive the animals she loves so deeply. I can't blame her for breaking down ? a month isn't long in the grieving process.
