The King of Queens star Leah Remini, 36, struggled for years to lose the 80 pounds she gained during her pregnancy with daughter, Sofia Bella, 2. Back in August, Leah said, "Which actress has a baby and is still fat a year later? I was the only one. It was very hard on me mentally. [Now] I'm so happy because, physically, I'm back ? and I have a husband and a beautiful, healthy baby."
Now she reveals how she lost the weight. On top of five workouts a week (which is probably responsible for a lot of the weight loss), Leah followed the 1st Personal Diet, which is customized for each person based on results of your blood test.
According to its inventor, Dr. R. Cohen, obesity is a metabolic problem arising out of hormonal imbalances and the diet seeks to correct that with a balanced eating program that "triggers" your body to correct those imbalances. Unlike low carb, high protein diets like the South Beach Diet or Atkins, or insulin-based diets like the Zone Diet, you are allowed to eat all types of food, nor is it a low calorie diet. Also, unlike TrimSpa (baby), you don't take any pills. According to Dr. Cohen, "your food becomes your 'medicine' so food quantities and combinations become very important."
After following the program for 2-4 months, your hormonal imbalances are supposedly corrected, then you re-introduce "bad foods" into your diet, and then you are given a healthy lifestyle guidelines that will prevent you from starting the cycle of "Obesity Syndrome" again.
I'm not a nutritionist, dietician or doctor, but this diet sounds fishy to me. I don't understand how a eating a certain way for a short period of time can "shock" your body into metabolizing food unless you keep eating that way. Also, I think it's funny that they don't recommend starting to exercise if you don't already. Everyone knows (whether they do it or not) that light to moderate exercise is a key part of a healthy lifestyle.
The diet is not for breastfeeding women (maybe because of the hormonal "shocking") or vegetarians (because you need to eat a variety of foods, including meat).
Meanwhile, the marketers of TrimSpa will pay $1.5 million to settle Federal Trade Commission's allegations that their weight-loss claims were unsubstantiated. According to the FTC's complaint, the marketers had inadequate scientific evidence to support their advertising claims that TrimSpa causes rapid and substantial weight loss and that one of its ingredients, Hoodia gordonii, enables users to lose substantial amounts of weight by suppressing appetite. They will also be prohbited from from making any claims about the health benefits, performance, efficacy, safety, or side effects of TrimSpa, Hoodia gordonii, or any dietary supplement, food, drug, or health-related service or program, unless the claims are true, not misleading, and substantiated by competent and reliable scientific evidence.
Three other companies will also be paying settlements and limiting future advertising claims: the companies that make Xenadrine EFX, CortiSlim, and One-A-Day WeightSmart. "You won't find weight loss in a bottle of pills that claims it has the latest scientific breakthrough or miracle ingredient," said FTC Chairman Deborah Platt Majoras. "Paying for fad science is a good way to lose cash, not pounds."
