Katie Couric Stands Tall To Raise Money For Cancer
CBS news anchor Katie Couric is once again merging with fellow news personalities Diane Sawyer and Brian Williams for "Stand Up to Cancer." Katie enthused, "We want people of all ages to be involved in this effort. Not only people who have cancer or who are dealing with it, but young people who want a cancer-free world in their future, because we really do think it's finally attainable." The September 10 commercial-free telecast will feature musical performances and some of the biggest names in Hollywood and sports. Live on ABC, NBC, and CBS from Los Angeles, Katie said that the three participating anchors "care about something bigger than ourselves. We understand the power of three is much more than the power of one." Nearly everyone is affected by the ravaging disease in one way or another and the one-hour broadcast will aim to educate people how to overcome and live with the illness. The 2008 event of the same magnitude raked in more than $100 million to go towards cancer research. She added, "With all of us working together, not only as citizens of the world but all these brilliant scientists collaborating and sharing all that they're doing, I think we're really, really close to finding much better, less toxic treatments and, one day, a cure."[Read full story on The Insider]
