The costumes that she wore in the Original Broadway Company of RENT were from her own closet. The clothes inspired a line of RENT-related clothes in Bloomingdales (1996). Still lives in the New York apartment that she has been in since before the RENT phenomenon.
Was a member of the pop trio "Pajama Party" before heading to Broadway to star in "Rent". They scored a number one club hit with the song "Yo No Se".
Received the Theatre World Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her role as Mimi in "Rent".
It was her performance in Broadway's "Rent" that ultimately won her the role of Det. Gloria Perez in Wild Things (1998).
