She moved to Spain with her father and brother in 1976 and started acting. Her first major role was in 'Ivan Zuleta' 's _Arrebato (1979)_ . She appeared in Pedro Almodóvar's debut feature Pepi, Luci, Bom and Other Girls Like Mom and went on playing in the director's Labyrinth of Passion, Entre tinieblas and _¿Qué he hecho yo para merecer esto?!! (1984)_ . In 1995 she moved back to Argentina and became a national star of TV, stage, and film. Besides appearing in the U.S.-coproduced thriller _Stranger, The (1987/I)_ , she mostly starred in Argentine films including A Place in the World, hit detective drama Ashes from Paradise and family drama Martín (Hache), which gained her Spain's Best Actress award. She teamed up with Almodóvar again starring in All About My Mother.



Was married to the composer and singer Fito Páez. Her son, Martín appears on the cover of ex-husband Fito Páez album "Abre". Member of the jury at the Venice Film Festival in 2001.
