A sunny singer, dancer and comical actress, Betty Garrett starred in several Hollywood musicals and Broadway roles. At the top of her game when the Communist scare in the 1950s stopped her career in a screeching and ugly halt. She and her husband 'Larry Parks' , an Oscar nominated actor, were summoned by the House UnAmerican Activities Committee and questioned about their involvement.

As the drama was played out, a very pregnant Garrett was never called to testify, but her husband Larry Parks was. With his refusal, his name would make it to Hollywood Blacklist. After the incident, both Garrett and Parks went back to work, Although Parks never quite shook off the blacklist incident, he won a role in a John Houston film in 1962.



Son with Larry Parks: composer Garrett Parks and actor Andrew Parks. Received her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on May 23, 2003. Attended high school and graduated from The Annie Wright School in Tacoma, Washington.
