Began acting in tent shows after graduating from University of Michigan at 22 years old.
Has a twin sister named Harriet. She won two Emmys in the 50s for The Bob Cummings Show. Joined an Episcopalian religious community in Denver, in 1974. Graduated from the University of Michigan in 1948, with a B.A. in Theatre. First motion picture part was in Strategic Air Command with James Stewart, as a waitress who sits a cake in front of Stewart. The scene was later cut out of the film. Best remembered as Alice in the hit TV series The Brady Bunch.
