Majored in theatre at State University of New York, New Paltz, and graduated in 1984 Appeared on Broadway in A Streetcar Named Desire in 1992 Cousin of Nicholas Turturro, John Turturro. She has been a long-time friend of her The Sopranos co-star James Gandolfini. In addition to their work on this hit show, they have appeared in three feature films together: Angie, Fallen and Romance & Cigarettes, and have co-starred in a 1992 Broadway revival of "A Streetcar Named Desire", which also starred Jessica Lange and Alec Baldwin. Played Mayor Dawgmeat in the SUNY New Paltz production of Li'l Abner her senior year (1984).
