Sole 'survivor: Tocantins' Chosen
Mon, 18 May 2009 09:26:11 | Rate news: +0
The "Survivor: Tocantins" season finale began with three Jalapao tribe members remaining (JT, Stephen and Taj) and only one Timbira tribe member (Erinn) left in the competition. See who got the final immunity necklace, and which contestant became the sole "Survivor," winning $1 million. JT got immunity after the four contestants raced through a tarantula obstacle course and completed a web shaped puzzle. Though it looked like Erinn may win the challenge, JT's head start worked to his advantage. At the tribal council JT and Stephen turned against their team member Taj and decided to vote her off the island, thinking that Erinn was easiest to go up against in the end. "I lost focus in the game and that cost me the game," Taj said of her being voted off. "[Erin's] not gonna beat both of us," JT told Stephen prior to the last immunity challenge that led to the final two contestants. On day 38, the ball-maze challenge ended with Erinn and Stephen literally dropping the ball and JT winning immunity for the third time in a row. "This is a game where you have to be ruthless," JT said after learning that Stephen considered breaking their promise of taking each other to the final two and was considering taking Erinn if he got immunity. "I don't think [JT] will betray me," Stephen said. JT honored his promise and voted Erinn off the island. As "the warrior" and "the wizard" went before the tribal council, it was "the warrior" JT that persevered in the end and won the vote unanimously, taking home $1 million!

'survivor' Scoop: The Dragon Slayer's Demise
Fri, 15 May 2009 07:26:11 | Rate news: +0
"Survivor: Tocantins" was down to five as Thursday night's episode opened, and players who found themselves on shaky ground began to try desperately to find their footing in the game. Coach was in low spirits as they headed back to camp following Debbie's elimination. He was shocked to learn that she had turned on him, and was grateful to the remaining players for saving him. "I'm like the lamb led to the slaughterhouse here," Coach said of Debbie's betrayal. Coach, who frequently spoke of honor throughout the game, next tried to convince Stephen and JT to send one of the two remaining women to Exile instead of him. After their conversation, Stephen told the camera, "I'm not entirely sure Coach can build a fire and cook his food by himself, I think he's just scared." When it came time for the reward challenge, the competitors had to walk through a maze with their feet shackled together and then hit three targets. JT handily won an overnight trip to the Governor's retreat, and chose to bring Stephen with him. Despite Coach's pleas to send one of the women to Exile, it was he who was sent to Exile, with JT bidding him farewell by saying, "Let's be noble, Coach." Coach said upon hearing the news: "I'm gonna take the monastic approach -- not gonna build a fire, not gonna eat." Erinn replied to Coach's statement by saying that he was only playing the martyr so that he would have an excuse if he didn't win the immunity challenge. Stephen and JT were then picked up by a private plane to head to their reward, and, upon arrival at the governor's abode, they enjoyed hot showers and a meal of traditional Brazilian churrasco, or barbeque. "We were having a meat festival," Stephen said of the myriad amounts of delicacies that came off the grill. "By the time we were done with the meats, we were stuffed." Meanwhile, on Exile, Coach was purportedly having the time of his life meditating and fasting. "I will not have anything to eat. It's going to be like the ancient American Indians who are my ancestors… they would commune with the universe and they would become men," he told the camera. Reflecting on being on Exile, Coach told the camera, "My Exile experience was -- no sleeping, starving, no food, very little water, and it was frickin' awesome!" Before heading to the immunity challenge, he said that, despite the challenges of Exile, "I feel nothing but incredible mental focus on the task at hand. I plan to win immunity today." Next up, it was time for the immunity challenge. The players had to stand on progressively smaller pieces of wood, and it was Coach and JT who battled it out for the win. After vigorously yelling and screaming, Coach finally gave up, and crumpled to the ground in a heap, claiming that his back was spasming. However, when Jeff Probst offered him medical attention, he turned it down, saying, "If medical would really look at my back, I wouldn't be here, so, no, please don't have them look at my back," leaving the question of whether he was truly injured up for dispute. Taj told the camera privately of his display at the immunity challenge: "When Coach returned from Exile with his cane, and his limping I'm thinking, 'This guy is such a drama queen!' Any 37-year-old man who thinks he a dragon slayer belongs in a mental institution." Back at camp, JT told Stephen and Coach that, due to Erinn's outburst at Coach, he was going to vote for her to go home, leaving Erinn's future in their alliance, and the game, in question. But at tribal council, after reading a poem he had written for the group, it was the colorful and always entertaining Coach Wade who was voted off. Figuring out that Stephen, whom he'd nicknamed "The Wizard," had voted for him, Coach told the camera, "The Wizard was definitely not the White Wizard -- he was the Evil Wizard."

'biggest Loser's Filipe Fa Is Kicked Off The Ranch
Thu, 30 Apr 2009 04:02:54 | Rate news: +0
It was clear to Filipe Fa that if he fell below the yellow line on Tuesday night's "The Biggest Loser" that he would be going home -- and just miss becoming one of the final four. But when his weigh-in showed a weight loss of 10 pounds, he had a fleeting thought that he was safe. That was until he saw that everyone else was making big numbers, too. After all was said and done, Filipe was below the yellow line with Ron Morelli. And when it came time to vote, it was a no-brainer that Ron's son Mike would vote for Filipe. Then, when Helen Phillips, too, cast her vote for him, the 26-year-old from Arizona's fate was sealed. ET: When you look back at the show do you think there is anything you could have done differently that would have put you in the final four? Filipe Fa: No. I killed it that week. In fact my regimen was even tougher than before. I made a goal to wake up every morning at 4:30, finish breakfast by 5 a.m., and workout from 5 to 7 a.m. I basically worked out eight to 10 hours a day that last week. I have no regrets. I gave it my all. ET: Helen said that since both you and Ron voted for her previously when she fell below the yellow line, that she had no loyalty to either of you. So do you think if you had not voted for her earlier, it might have changed her vote, or was she really into the game by then? Filipe Fa: I think she was really into the game by that point. I don't know why she would have felt that I would have voted otherwise. I would never write Kristin Steede's name down. I was closer to Kristin than to Helen. I know that it made her upset, but I had to vote for my friend. Whether I voted for her or not, I don't think it would have changed the outcome, because this week everybody was playing the game. So when I fell below the yellow line, I knew I was gone. ET: Going back to your blow-up with Jillian Michaels. Did that have anything to do with the fact that she was a woman? Was that part of your issue with her, or was it that you really felt she wasn't working you out? Felipe Fa: No. It had nothing to do with the fact that she was a woman, or that she wasn't working me out. I think we just had bad communication that week. I didn't really mean to blow up on her, and she didn't mean to say some things, as well. In fact, off-camera we talked about it and made up. We are really good friends right now. I haven't talked to her since I have been off the show, but I have no ill feelings toward her. She is probably one of the best trainers out there. ET: Have you lost any more than the 13 pounds we saw last night since you have been home? Filipe Fa: I am still the same. I am around the same range. ET: Do you have a favorite from the final four to win the competition and the $250,000? Filipe Fa: Tara Costa. That last week on the ranch, Tara and I were able to get close. We had some great conversations. By nature, she is a tough competitor. Because she is so consistent in being so tough, she deserves it more than anybody else. ET: You mentioned that you had problems when you first got home. Why do you think your routine stalled? Filipe Fa: When I first got home, I had the hardest time trying to adjust back to normal life. Going from having a routine on the ranch, where I knew I could wake up every day and do this, and then I had to incorporate family life into that. I still worked out every day, I just I found myself plateauing. Then my father had his stroke. I had to tend to that while my mom worked. I had to be there for my dad. There was a lot of family drama I had to deal with before I could get back on track. [Note: Filipe's dad is doing better. He has improved his eating habits and has lost 18 pounds since his stroke.] ET: How is your relationship with Sione since you have taken this journey with him? Filipe Fa: I think for the most part it has drawn us closer. Sione has always been there for me. He was always a close cousin to me. Being able to make the journey with him has been amazing. We work out together every morning. As much as it is a competition, we still workout together every morning. ET: After losing large amounts of weight, what happens to all the stretched skin? Filipe Fa: That has been the struggle with me being home is dealing with this excess skin. The advice I got from Bob was just a lot of cardio. It is going to take a lot of intense cardio to take it off. I am dealing with it. I have gotten more off since I have been off the show. Hopefully, by the finale I will look as good as I want to. "The Biggest Loser" returns next week for the penultimate episode, when we will see the competitors after they have spent 30 days at home -- and, in addition to the weigh-in, they will be tasked with completing a marathon. Then the finale airs Tuesday, May 12 at 8 p.m. on NBC.

'survivor''s Tyson Talks About Being Blindsided
Tue, 28 Apr 2009 04:00:45 | Rate news: +0
It was a Tribal Council shocker when the "warrior" alliance was broken on last week's "Survivor: Tocantins." Now, ET talks to Tyson Apostol, a 30-year-old from Lindon, Utah, who was blindsided by the vote. It was JT and Stephen who stealthily reorganized the vote -- even openly lying -- to eliminate Tyson, who had lost the Immunity Challenge for the first time in two weeks, finally leaving him vulnerable. ET: Why do you think they voted you off? It was a total blindside. Tyson Apostol: They voted me off because I was too awesome. ET: No modesty? Tyson Apostol: There doesn't need to be. I guess I could pretend like that wasn't the reason, but I was too threatening to everyone. ET: It was the first Immunity Challenge you had lost in a couple of weeks. It may have been their only chance to vote you off. Tyson Apostol: I don't know how many challenges they were going to have on the show that didn't require any skill. It was a good play. I will give that to them. They needed to do that, because I would have owned their asses in everything else. ET: Does this mean the power in the tribe has shifted? Tyson Apostol: Definitely, I would think. Coach and myself were in charge until I got voted off. Now, it seems that Stephen and JT have more of an advantage, so Coach will have to scramble to get something going, or face his demise. ET: When you get to the finale, does the fact that this was a really smart vote, do you look at that as they really played the game well, or do you hold a grudge? Tyson Apostol: I don't hold a grudge. It is a game. It was a great move. It is not often in someone's life that they can be better than me at something, so let them have it for a little while. ET: What's it like watching yourself on TV? Tyson Apostol [jokes]: It is like looking at myself in the mirror, but it is not a mirror image. It is a true image. I always thought everything on the right side of my face was on the left side, but it is vice versa. ET: Is Coach the way he appears on TV? Is he that strange in real life? Tyson Apostol: He said everything that was on TV, and he believed everything, so there are parts of him that are that strange, but they are showing the most outrageous parts of him. He is a dear in real life. He is a sweetheart, but there are moments like you can't believe your ears. Personally, my favorite line of his is when he was talking about his meditation techniques and he said, "Don't bother Googling it. It is only passed down verbally." I was, "Wow! I could use that for a lot of things. I could prove so many things if I said that afterwards." ET: If you had a do-over, do you think there is anything you could change that would change the outcome? Tyson Apostol: Definitely. Debbie would have given me the Immunity necklace. She was part of my alliance. I could have talked to her about it. I also could have split the votes four-four with Erinn. I think Coach, Debbie and Sierra -- had I talked to them -- would have all voted for Erinn. That would have been four votes for Erinn and four votes for me. If it had come down to building fire, or some other challenge, I am sure I would have come out victorious against Erinn. There are definitely things I could have done. In hindsight, I don't know why I didn't save myself for one vote. If you are smart enough, and personable enough, there are always ways to protect yourself in the vote. I had a moment of laziness there where I felt confident enough to not do anything. ET: Do you think if JT, Coach and Stephen had chosen to play the game instead of eating pizza that would have changed the outcome of the game? Tyson Apostol: It could have been different. You never know. When you are blindly throwing pucks at a target, everything could have been changed, because it was a challenge based on luck. If I had gone last, that could have changed things for me. If their pucks were intermingled in the mix, that could have changed things. ET: Does it upset you that they chose to eat? Tyson Apostol: It is disappointing. I was there to win $1 million, not to eat cafeteria pizza. If I wanted to eat cafeteria pizza, I could go to the local public elementary school for pizza Thursday and chow down. ET: Coming back from Brazil, what was the biggest adjustment you had to make? Tyson Apostol: Responsibility in general. You didn't have to worry about phone calls, you didn't have to worry about e-mails, you didn't have to worry about going into work or paying bills. Coming back, it was overwhelming. When you are so popular, you get back and you have 10,000 voice messages on your phone, a bajillion e-mails. I didn't want to do any of that. When I got back, I called hardly anybody for the first two or three weeks. Things like that. ET: You got pretty thin. Did you have trouble eating again when you got back? Tyson Apostol: I was looking pretty sexy. Once I got to Ponderosa after the game, the biggest problem was that I ate so much, I felt sick. I lost almost 15 pounds out there, and almost within 10 days, I gained 25 pounds, so I gained more than that back in half the time. ET: What's next for you? Are you still riding? Tyson Apostol: I am not currently on a team. I am just doing my own thing. I would like to do something in entertainment. I am pretty entertaining to myself. I am just waiting to see what else falls in my lap. ET: If Coach makes it to the finals, do you think he can win? Tyson Apostol: I doubt it. I don't think enough people would vote for him. It depends against whom. If he and Sierra go to the finals, he could beat Sierra, I think. ET: You are down on Sierra. Tyson Apostol: No, I am just a realist. I am being real. Generally speaking, I think she got on everybody's nerves more than he did. It might be close, but I would say he would prove victorious. It might be close with him and Erinn, or him and Taj, but everybody else wouldn't have a problem. ET: Last question is about your lack of modesty. You did a lot of nudity. Tyson Apostol: In real-life, I wear Speedos to the pool because they are sexy. When it is 125 degrees out in Brazil, layering isn't something that makes sense to do, so I did the least amount of layering possible. Just my skin as the base layer. That was the most comforting and cool. "Survivor: Tocantins" airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. on CBS.

'survivor' Scoop: Another Week, Another Betrayal
Fri, 24 Apr 2009 07:39:59 | Rate news: +0
Thursday night's "Survivor: Tocantins" was jam-packed with extreme highs and extreme lows, on an episode where the next castoff appeared to be a foregone conclusion. With her only ally, Brendan, blindsided last week, Sierra found herself having to beg for her tribemates' mercy. At the beginning of the episode, she told them: "Obviously I know I'm the next one to go so let's just try to make these next couple of days congenial, I guess." "I like to see Sierra scramble and mope," Tyson told the camera. "I've never liked Sierra," he said. "To me she has zero worth. I mean, I guess her parents probably love her." For his part, Coach spent some time basking in the glory of orchestrating Brendan's ouster. Continuing to dub himself "the dragon slayer," Coach told the camera, "The dragon slayer has vanquished the dragon once and for all," pausing the yell for dramatic effect before continuing, "Over! The battle has already been won!" For the first reward challenge, the survivors had to line up giant puzzle pieces in order to win letter tiles, and then assemble a phrase. Tyson, J.T., Debbie and Erinn won, and the foursome were treated to a Brazilian meal and a Capoheira dance and martial arts exhibition. Stephen was sent to Exile, and hoped that he might find another Idol there. When his hopes were dashed, he told the camera: "I'm lucky I'm not on that reward. Who wants a feast when they can have … sand. Thank God I have no food and bleak surroundings for a few days." Back at camp, Sierra continued begging to stay. When she got nowhere with begging, she began to cry by the campfire, telling her tribemates mournfully, "I feel like I'm getting kicked in the face," but no one budges on their resolve to vote her out. Next up, it was time for the immunity challenge. In the cold and rain, the tribemates were faced with a shuffleboard-like game, and were given a choice – they could play for immunity, or stuff their faces with pizza for as long as the game lasted. Feeling confident, Coach, J.T. and Stephen decided to eat and not bother to try for immunity. In a nail-biting end to the challenge, Sierra barely edged out Tyson, but was finally overcome by Debbie, who won immunity. Back at camp, Debbie was excited for her win, which annoyed Tyson, who said to Sierra, "There's nothing awesomer than seeing someone celebrate before the game is over." But next, Tyson was showed telling the camera, "Tonight's tribal council is going to be awesome. I'm hoping that Sierra will cry a lot." While Tyson was looking forward to Sierra's tears, a devious plan was afoot by Taj, Erinn and Stephen, who were considering blindsiding Tyson. Stephen and J.T. had a private discussion to decide whether they would vote for Sierra, or Tyson. "I think it's going to be Tyson. It might be our only chance," Stephen told J.T. "Then we'll be stuck with Sierra," J.T. responded, going on to say, "Sierra is a lying b*tch and I hate her." Later, J.T. talked privately with Coach about Coach's so-called "warrior alliance," which included J.T. and Tyson. Coach told J.T., "I know I can trust you and that's so important to me, man." "You have my word," J.T. responded, looking Coach in the eye. When it came time for Tribal Council, Coach told host Jeff Probst: "I trust and I believe one hundred percent when he tells me something," of J.T.'s loyalty. Tyson told Probst that he felt "pretty comfortable" that he wouldn't be voted out, and seemed positively gleeful as the votes were about to be read. But, in the end, a second shocking blindside was in the cards, and, in a 5-3 vote that was sure to anger Coach, Tyson was sent home. Sierra seemed shocked and got tearful as Tyson exited the game. Tyson bid adieu with words for the camera: "[Those] sneaky bastards! Now I now how Brendan feels," but added of Sierra, "It's a little weird being outfoxed by an idiot." Tune in to next week's "Survivor" on CBS to see what this season's masterminds will have up their sleeve next.
