UPDATE: Do you remember Connie Talbot on Britain's Got Talent? Although Connie ended up in second place in the show, was reportedly assured a record deal with Sony BMG by Simon Cowell.  Apparently Cowell has had a change of heart and pulled out of the agreement.

On the show, Cowell said:

"Of course a record deal with Sony BMG is on the cards - but only if Connie wants it.

We can't go rushing into anything. I will initially talk to her and then I'll have a word with her mum and see what she wants. She could easily make a million quid-plus this year."

However, after Connie recorded two songs for the Sony BMG, her parents were allegedly  told she could not continue working with them.  Mrs. Talbot said:

"They said she was too young to be their sort of artist.  We have been told to look for a company which looks after children."

Cowell was said to have explained:

"My views on Connie have not changed. I think she's a wonderful talent. But I was persuaded by everyone at Sony BMG that she is just much too young to be embarking on a recording career.  When the time is right I will be delighted to see if we can make it work."

I think Connie has an amazing gift with her ability to sing like an angel, but she is way too young to be starting up in show business.  Look at what has happened to so many of the celebrities that started out really young, for example: Britney Spears, Michael Jackson, etc.  I hope that Simon Cowell does follow up with her in a few years though.
