Her mother was a model and her father a songwriter, he left the family home when Samantha was three, soon after her mother married a G.P and the whole family relocated to Edinburgh.
Has been best friends with actor Scott Maslen since she was 16.
A close female friend has been Rita Simons, who plays her younger sister in "EastEnders" (1985), since they began working together in 2007.
Lived in Italy during her marriage to Mauro Mantovani.
Got engaged to long-term partner Mark Womack after he proposed to her in a flea market in Paris (January 2009).
Served as bridesmaid at the wedding of Scott Maslen to Estelle Rubio (6 September 2008).
Her estranged father Noel Janus, aged 60, was found hanged in his one-bedroom flat in Brighton by a concerned neighbour (22 August 2009).
