Meghan Mccain Defends Bristol Palin On Her Blog
Wed, 03 Sep 2008 13:22:53 | Rate news: +0
Sen. John McCain’s daughter Meghan McCain is speaking out in support of Bristol Palin, the 17-year-old pregnant daughter of Republican VP Candidate Sarah Palin. Megan wrote the following on her blog McCainBlogette.com: “The first political convention I ever attended was when my mom was pregnant with me in 1984 and the Republican Party nominated Ronald Reagan for a second term as President. I have been on political stages and in campaigns since before I could walk or talk. If there is one thing I have learned, it is that it is difficult to establish your identity and independence as the son or daughter of a politician. When I was 14 years old, a reporter questioned my father about me having a hypothetical abortion, had I been pregnant at 14. This reporter's question single-handedly changed my life. This story comes up in almost every profile written about me and in almost every interview. It's a rough go being the son or daughter of a politician. I have not known Bristol Palin very long, but there is a certain kinship I feel to her as I do other political daughters such as Chelsea Clinton, Jenna and Barbara Bush and Mary Cheney. You can't fully understand it unless you have lived it. So I just wanted to let it be known that I support Bristol and the entire Palin family.”

Barack Obama made history Wednesday as he formally won the Democratic Party's nomination for president -- making him the first African American to lead a major party ticket. Obama made a surprise speech in Denver at the DNC, his first on-stage appearance at the convention with VP running mate Sen. Joe Biden. In his speech, the Democratic presidential nominee praised his wife Michelle for her DNC speech, saying she "kicked it off pretty well." Obama also commended former competitor Sen. Hillary Clinton. "If I'm not mistaken, Hillary Clinton rocked the house down last night!" he told the enthusiastic crowd. He also publicly thanked former President Bill Clinton for being "a president who actually puts people first." Obama is expected to make a substantial speech Thursday night at the DNC, which he announced will be moved to Invesco Field at Mile High to accommodate a larger crowd. To prepare for Thursday night, Obama is said to be looking at the nomination speeches of former Presidents Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan and John F. Kennedy, the Associated Press reports.

Happy Presidents' Day!
Tue, 19 Feb 2008 09:16:50 | Rate news: +0
President's Day was yesterday and we at Dotspotter were so inspired by Holy Candy's celebration that  we decided to extend the patriotism another 24 hours!    Economic policy and foreign relations are important, of course, but let's not fool ourselves - charisma is a huge part of what gets Presidents elected.  Who's your favorite Oval Office hottie?     Okay, so Presidents’ Day is technically a celebration of George Washington’s birthday and store sales. However, we at Holy Candy — who refuse to get caught up in facts — have decided to honor the holiday’s namesake with a more appropriate and respectful tribute:   A poll of the...
