The Welsh actor was accused of pushing a female guard while at the event in California to promote his new movie 'The Amazing Spider-Man', but insufficient evidence means Rhys - who reportedly smelled of alcohol when he was arrested - will not face prosecution.
Rhys Ifans was arrested for allegedly pushing a female security guard at the Comic-Con International festival on Friday (22.07.11).

The Welsh actor - who stars as villainous scientist The Lizard in upcoming superhero movie 'The Amazing Spider-Man' - was being "aggressive and belligerent" at the world famous comic book convention in San Diego, where he was a surprise guest, and he also apparently shoved an official when the guard blocked one of his entourage from entering a backstage area.

Reuters - British actor Rhys Ifans, who portrays the villain Lizard in the upcoming Hollywood movie "The Amazing Spider-Man," was arrested and cited for battery at the pop culture gathering Comic-Con on Friday evening.

According to police, a member of Ifans' entourage did not have the proper credentials to get in to a particular area -- and that's when Ifans became "abusive, belligerent and aggressive, and shoved a female security guard."

A police spokeswoman said Ifans smelled like alcohol, but was not cited for public intoxication.

The female security guard in question made a citizen's arrest and San Diego police issued him a citation for misdemeanor battery.
