AP - Quentin Tarantino, Jane Campion and other past winners of the Cannes Film Festival's highest honor were competing with an international cast of up-and-comers for this year's prize Sunday.
"The Insider" was on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival with Brad Pitt and the rest of the cast of Quentin Tarantino's new film 'Inglourious Basterds,' which premiered to an 11 minute standing ovation. Tarantino's Nazi-era film follows a group of Jewish-American soldiers whose mission is to take down a group of Nazis. In addition to Pitt, Diane Kruger and Mike Myers also star in the film. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie enjoyed a dinner date Tuesday night in France along with some special guests! Sources tell ET Brad and Angelina dined at Michelangelo in Antibes, France for a private dinner held for the cast of Quentin Tarantino's 'Inglourious Basterds'. Tarantino, cast member Diane Kruger, and her boyfriend Joshua Jackson joined the gorgeous couple at dinner. Hunky actors Robert Pattinson and Emile Hirsch were also spotted at the restaurant. Brad Pitt and director Quentin Tarantino are planning a May trip to the French Riviera. Pitt is starring in Tarantino's Nazi-era film 'Inglourious Basterds' that is said to debut at the Cannes Film Festival in France, Variety reports. The film follows a group of Jewish-American soldiers whose mission is to take down a group of Nazis. The Cannes Film Festival runs May 13-24 and 'Inglourious Basterds' is set to hit theaters August 21. Pitt attended last year's Cannes Film festival for his role in the Coen brothers movie 'Burn After Reading.'

Quentin Tarantino describes Brad Pitt as "the head honcho basterd!" Brad is playing Lt. Aldo Raine in Taratino's upcoming film 'Inglourious Basterds' and the director says Brad's character, "ain’t your Warner Brothers 1950's WW2 hero, this is a hillbilly straight from the mountains of Tennessee."   Tarantino includes a picture of Brad in "full resistance fighter gear" as well as a line from the script! In Tarantino's most recent blog post about the film, he says the movie's security crew used water cannons to fend off the paparazzi!
