A&E has confirmed it will not renew Patrick Swayze's Chicago-set police drama The Beast for a second season. The series, which premiered in January, starred Swayze as Charles Barker, a rogue undercover FBI agent teamed up with rookie Ellis Dove ( Travis Fimmel). Rumors about the fate of the show have been swirling for weeks, but A&E did not announce its decision to cancel it until Monday.
"The Insider" has learned that Patrick Swayze's A&E drama "The Beast" will not return to the network for its second season. Swayze, 56, continued shooting the series during its first season despite his diagnosis and treatment for pancreatic cancer last year. In "The Beast," which debuted last January, Swayze played an unorthodox FBI vet training a new partner while being pursued by a secret Internal Affairs team. The star revealed he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March 2008.

The producers of Patrick Swayze's FBI drama "The Beast" are denying that the series has been canceled. A rep for the A&E network tells ET that no decision has been made about the show's fate. Swayze -- who continued shooting the series despite his diagnosis and treatment for pancreatic cancer last year -- stars in "The Beast" as an unorthodox FBI vet training a new partner while being pursued by a secret Internal Affairs team. The executive producer of "The Beast," John Romano, told ET earlier this year that the production team was confident about Swayze's return and the star had been ambitious about moving on with the show. "We're taking our cues from him," Romano said. "He's giving us every sign that we're rolling forward; here comes season two.
