Tonight was rather strange on American Idol as they were so rushed for time because they allowed the contestants to do two songs. What a mistake! While the show is getting closer to the finals, the Top 5 performances were on the mediocre side overall. Here's a review of the Idol wannabes singing the Neil Diamond songbook:
Jason Castro - very casual version of "Forever in Blue Jeans." It was pleasant and enjoyable.David Cook - good job with "I'm Alive" but it didn't make me jump out of my chair.Brooke White - worst cover of "I'm a Believer" I have ever heard in my life. It started out shaky and then she sounded a little off key throughout the song. David Archuleta - awful performance of "Sweet Caroline" because he was overdoing it on some of the notes.Syesha Mercado - sang "Hello Again" and it wasn't a good match for her voice. It was rather boring.
After the first set of songs were performed, Ryan Seacrest asked the judges to give some feedback on what they saw and after Randy Jackson gave his opinion, Paula Abdul totally lost everyone with giving Jason feedback on his second performance that he hadn't yet sang. Paula sounded like she was so flustered - it really appeared like she was on medication tonight. Simon gave quick to the five, calling Brooke's performance a nightmare only to have Brooke yell back "No, it wasn't!" What an idiot she is! Can't someone make her wear a muzzle when she receives feedback? She can't handle the truth - it was a nightmare!
The second performances were a little better:
Jason Castro - sang "September Morn" and unfortunately, there was nothing special about it, but it was okay.David Cook - outstanding performance...can't remember the name of the song at this moment, but it was very emotional - I thought it was one of his best.Brooke White - she's just so annoying. She started to explain that she heard Simon say her first performance was a nightmare, but it couldn't have been. How about just taking the criticism like a good contestant and just moving on? The second song was better than the first, but she still sounded nasal and at some high notes, it just sounded awkward.David Archuleta - sang "Coming to America" pretty well. I'm sure he made his fans and especially his Daddy proud.Syesha Mercado - awful closing performance because it sounded whiny. It was a fun, energetic song, but her voice just didn't seem to fit the song.
Fave Tonight: David Cook
I'm not sure if they'll just do the bottom two tomorrow rather than three, but my prediction is that the bottom two will be Jason Castro and Syesha Mercado.
Prediction of who's getting the boot tomorrow: Syesha Mercado (but I wish it were Brooke White)
