After "Dancing with the Stars" judge Bruno Tonioli made headlines for his strong critique of Michael Bolton's performance, the ABC hit show's producers are speaking out. "Bruno's role as a judge is to give his honest opinions on the quality of the dances he's judging, which is what he did in this case. While we respect the feelings of our celebrities and dancers, we don't feel Bruno should be expected to apologize for doing his job," the producers tell ET. On Monday night, Bruno critiqued Michael's routine (which kicked off in a doghouse), saying, "I think this is probably the worst jive in 11 seasons," and also noting, "You should have kept the bone and gone back into the doghouse."

The 'When a Man Loves a Woman' singer and his professional partner Chelsie Hightower were voted off by the public last night (28.09.10) after coming bottom of the judges' scoreboard with a poor 12 out of 30.
After Tuesday's "Dancing with the Stars" elimination show "The Insider"'s cameras rolled, capturing the mood backstage following Michael Bolton's departure. "It is going to be different not having [Michael Bolton and Chelsie Hightower] around," Bristol Palin told us. "Michael's such a great guy and such a hard worker that I'm just going to miss his spirit around [here]." Another person Bristol might miss having around is her mom Sarah Palin. Bristol wasn't sure on Tuesday whether Sarah would be attending any more tapings of "DWTS," because of scheduling conflicts. Since Bolton had to leave for a show in Napa Valley, his partner Chelsie spoke on his behalf, saying, "We really wish that we could have had another week to come back and to redeem ourselves." Hightower revealed to us how determined the singer was to go far in the competition when she told us, "I know it's going to be hard for him." Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino said that he doesn't like to see any of the dancers leave and his partner Karina Smirnoff hopes that Bolton will return to the "Dancing" stage and sing "When a Man Loves a Woman." One of the dancers is dreading more than just his possible elimination. Tony Dovolani is planning on having his legs waxed by the end of the week and he's calling Friday, October 1 "D-Day." After judge Bruno Tonioli called Bolton's Jive one of the worst in "DWTS" history, Maksim Chmerkovskiy had this message for those that haven't been particularly tactful when giving their criticisms: "They need to stop auditioning for a movie role. They're not going to get it." Tune in next Monday for an all new "Dancing with the Stars" on ABC.

He immediately gave his pro partner Chelsie Hightower a hug and told her "sorry." Asked if he was surprised to get the axe, the crooner admitted, "Yeah. Yeah, I'm disappointed… Chelsie's been awesome and I wanted her to go on and on as well." "Michael is such a genuine person," Chelsie said, adding to her partner, "and it was honestly such an honor to work with you." Bristol Palin's mom Sarah Palin was back in the house as well, and "Dancing with the Stars" took the opportunity to present its side of the "Boo-gate" controversy involving the former VP candidate. The show aired what host Brooke Burke called a raw clip from Monday night that appeared to show the audience booing the judges for the scores they gave Jennifer Grey and Derek Hough, then cheering afterward when host Tom Bergeron announced that he'd be interviewing Palin in the crowd. "Just to put the final nail [in] the coffin of 'BooGate,'" Bergeron joked with the judges Tuesday evening, "Sarah Palin told me before the show that she was surprised by all the controversy because she was booing you guys, too."
