After the WORST TV breakup of all time, Charlie Sheen says he LOVES the idea of returning to "Two and a Half Men" ... even though his character is supposedly DEAD.

Sheen appeared on the "Today" show this morning ... where he told Matt Lauer that Ashton Kutcher is "going to do great" as the NEW star when the show comes back next week.

But when Lauer suggested Sheen could return to his old stomping grounds for a cameo -- Sheen LIT UP ... saying, "If they thought it was a good idea ... I'm completely on board for that."

Even thought Charlie Harper "died" after Sheen went off the deep end a while back ... Sheen insists, "There was no body at the funeral ... there was no urn."

Don't hold your breath.

Reuters - NBC News has released excerpts from "Today" host Matt Lauer's upcoming interview with Charlie Sheen, in which the actor says he is still sober, feels calmer than he was earlier in the year, and is in the midst of reconciling his relationships with his former spouses Denise Richards and Brooke Mueller.

Casey Anthony's lawyer says Anthony could be in danger if she's required to return to Florida this week to meet with a probation officer -- telling Matt Lauer, "The last thing we wanna do is put Casey in harm's way."

Attorney Jose Baez appeared on "Today" this morning ... and explained, "We have an issue of safety." He was not specific about the potential threat.

Earlier this week, Judge Stan Strickland ordered Anthony back to Orlando to begin probation for a 2010 check fraud conviction. Baez believes the judge is exceeding his authority by requiring Anthony to return to Florida because the Department of Corrections already certified that she completed her probation.

But around the same time Baez appeared on "Today" -- Judge Strickland officially recused himself from the case ... but did not give a reason for his decision to step down. 

No word on who will replace Strickland --or if that person will enforce his order requiring Casey to return to Florida.

Sources at NBC were "mystified" over Lindsay's reason for canceling her interview with Matt Lauer.  She says she was willing to sit for a 15 minute interview but not a longer one and then just pulled the plug and sent Matt packing.

What Matt didn't know -- Lindsay flunked a urine test.  That's a buzz kill when you're doing an interview for "Today" and "Dateline" explaining how you've turned your life around.

As TMZ first reported ... Lindsay submitted to 2 urine tests a week ago.  In one, she tested positive for alcohol ... the other test was negative.  In both tests there was no evidence of drugs.

Lindsay has been ordered to court today at 10 AM PT.  The L.A. County Probation Department wants Judge Stephanie Sautner to end Lindsay's house arrest and throw her in L.A. County Jail.


We'll be in court.

Matt briefly talked about Lindsay's cancellation this morning on "Today."

Filed under: Lindsay Lohan, Matt Lauer, Deadline Lindsay Lohan pulled the plug on Matt Lauer last night, just before cameras were supposed to roll for her big sit-down interview.




NBC sources tell TMZ ... Lauer flew to L.A. yesterday, and showed up at Lindsay's Venice loft around 6 PM. 

We're told Lindsay was actually in the makeup chair when things went south.  Sources close to Lindsay tell TMZ ... Lauer's team blindsided them by saying the interview would be extremely lengthy because producers were planning to put it on "Dateline" as well as "Today."

Lindsay kicked up her heels, saying she was told it would only be a 15-minute interview, and refused to sit for anything longer.  The two sides began arguing -- to no avail -- and then Matt just packed up and left.

We're told before Lindsay made her decision, she consulted her publicist, Steve Honig, who agreed it was not the right time to do a televised and in depth interview. Once Lindsay decided to call it off,  Honig broke the news to Lauer.

Our NBC sources say producers made it clear to Lindsay and her people before Matt even got on the plane that the interview would be lengthy ... because it was servicing two shows.

Matt was not on "Today" today, and he's just about to land back in the Big Apple.

At least he got some AAdvantage miles out of it.

The network announced the deal today, unveiling the plan which puts Katie in as host and producer.  We've learned Katie's mentor -- former "Today" show EP Jeff Zucker -- will be the Executive Producer.

As we reported, Katie will make $20 million, mostly for the talk show but there's a relatively small amount for contributing to various ABC news shows.

Sources tell TMZ, the likelihood is ... Katie will get the 3 PM time slot when the show debuts in September, 2012.  That's the coveted slot Oprah owned for a quarter century in many key markets.

Matt Lauer will NOT be part of the show.

Justin Bieber's voice is "definitely" changing.

The 16-year-old singing sensation is relying on the assistance of his vocal coach to adapt his music to suit the way puberty has impacted on his speaking and singing, but says he is handling it well.
In a new interview with NBC's Matt Lauer, Michael Douglas has declared his tumor is gone and he's most likely beaten cancer. "The odds are with the tumor gone, and what I know about this particular type of cancer, is that I've got it beat," said the 66-year-old actor. Douglas, who first announced that he was battling throat cancer in the summer of 2010, continued by telling Lauer that he feels good but still plans on monitoring his situation: "The tumor is gone, but you know, I have to check out on a monthly basis now to maintain. I guess there's not a total euphoria. I'll probably take a couple of months of getting checked out. But it's been a wild six-month ride." Douglas has been steadily returning to a normal life, with his diet being at the forefront. "I'm eating like a pig. I'm still -- I lost about 32 pounds. And I've put about 12 back. But, I mean, I got another 20, 25 to go," said the relieved actor. In a personal glimpse into family life, Douglas shared how he talked about cancer with his young children with wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, Dylan, 10, and Carys, 7: "I told them about the cancer, you know, right from the beginning because I was going to be in and out of the [medical center]." "But, I told them it was hopeful," Douglas explained. "And I also took them down to a couple of radiation treatments. So they came into the room and they saw all the 'Star Wars'-[style] treatment going around." In the wake of dealing with cancer, Douglas admitted that the experience has granted him a newfound perspective on life and the people closest to him. "There's a new depth. You know, maybe it has to do because of everything life-threatening. So, all of a sudden the affection from my family, from my friends, and from my fans hit me at a much deeper level than I would have ever imagined before. And it gave me a really new appreciation of just how valuable, how precious good friends are and family. And it's not that I [disregarded] them before but there's a much deeper feeling. And I've talked to other cancer survivors about this, that -- that happens, that you just really; really appreciate what's important in life." More of the interview will air on Tuesday's "Today" show and the entire sit down will air on Dateline NBC on Sunday, January 23.
