A singer-songwriter who plays guitar, Lyle Lovett won a 1989 Grammy for Best Male Country Vocal Performance. His albums, the first of which was released in 1986, incorporate elements of country, Western, folk, swing, jazz, bebop, blues and gospel music. He graduated from Texas A&M with degrees in German and journalism.


Was trampled by a bull on his Klein, Texas, ranch; needed surgery to repair his mauled right leg. He has since (understandably) possessed a morbid fear of cattle. [April 2002] He once bought a Cadillac El Dorado from Hunter S. Thompson. Engaged to April Kimble. [2006] Originally slated to play one of the singing cowboys in A Prairie Home Companion (2006). Suffers seriously from bovophobia (fear of cattle).
