The Terminator creator James Cameron has refused to "endorse" the latest movie in the sci-fi franchise - reserving the right to "hate" the film if it fails to meet his high standards.


LOS ANGELES (AP) - Director James Cameron said Tuesday that his upcoming big-budget 3-D movie "Avatar" couldn't possibly live up to the hype on the Internet ahead of its release late next year.

Batman and his batmobile are once again crashing through the record books. 'The Dark Knight' crossed the 500 million dollar mark on Sunday, in half the time it took the number one blockbuster 'Titanic' to make a half billion dollars, the Associated Press reports. After just six weeks, 'The Dark Knight' has now grossed 502.4 million at the domestic box office. Now, the burning question, will the 'Dark Knight' sink 'Titanic''s hold on number one? Industry observers don’t think so. The James Cameron epic  film took in over 600 million at the domestic box office. Dan Fellman, head of distribution of Warner Bros, tells the AP that he expects the caped crusader to swoop in somewhere around the $530 million mark. 'The Dark Knight' has been on track for box office glory since it hit the multi-plex. When it bowed on July 18th it had the biggest opening weekend of all time, making over $158 million. By Aug 18, the Christopher Nolan flick became the second highest grossing film of all time, surpassing the beloved first 'Star Wars' film.

The Oscar winner created creatures for 'Jurassic Park,' 'Terminator' and many more fantasy flicks. Hollywood lost another of its own Sunday evening as Oscar-winning visual effects artist Stan Winston passed away of cancer. He was 62. Winston died surrounded by family at his home in Los Angeles after a seven-year battle with multiple myeloma, according to a representative from Stan Winston Studio. He survived by his wife, Karen; a son, daughter, brother and four grandchildren. A frequent collaborator with Steven Spielberg and James Cameron, the highly influential artist won visual effects Academy Awards for 'Aliens,' 'Terminator 2: Judgment Day' and 'Jurassic Park.' He also directed two effects-driven feature films, 'Pumpkinhead' and 'A Gnome Named Norm.' Other notable films with his imprint include 'The Thing,' 'Predator,' 'Edward Scissorhands,' 'Batman Returns,' 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' and 'Iron Man.' On Monday, 'Terminator' star and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said in a statement, "The entertainment industry has lost a genius and I lost one of my best friends with the death Sunday night of Stan Winston. Stan's work and four Oscars speak for themselves and will live on forever. What will live forever in my heart is the way that Stan loved everyone and treated each of his friends like they were family. More treasured by Stan than any Oscar, though, was the endearing love that he had for his wife, Karen, his children, Matt and Debbie and his grandchildren. I will miss him greatly and am honored to have worked with him." Don Shay, publisher of Cinefex magazine and a key chronicler of Winston's career, said, "For Stan, the measure of his work was never in the techniques and technology employed and pioneered at his studio. He was a 'character creator,' as he liked to be called, and artistry was his only benchmark. Stan Winston will always be remembered as the man who transformed Arnold Schwarzenegger into the Terminator and who built a full-size robotic T-rex for Jurassic Park. But he was more than the sum of his greatest achievements. He was a devoted family man, a beloved patriarch to his stable of artists, and a master artist and sculptor in his own right."
