The late actor and soul singer Isaac Hayes was deep into Scientology during the final years of his life - so deep in fact that he actually quite his 'South Park' Chef's voice gig when the show made fun of Scientology big wig Tom Cruise.

South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have paid tribute to the late Isaac Hayes - by posting a message on the show's website.


Isaac Hayes died of a stroke at his home on Sunday, the star's family doctor has confirmed.

An autopsy has not yet been performed on the legendary soul singer - who was found unresponsive near a running treadmill in his home in Memphis, Tennessee - but Shelby County Medical Examiner David Kraus says it is likely the star died from a stroke.

Singer Isaac Hayes died from a stroke, Shelby County Sheriff's Deputies say. Officer Stephen Shular tells "The Insider" that Hayes died Sunday of a stroke associated with hypertension.   According to Shular, investigators with the Shelby County Medical Examiner's Office say there was no indication that he fell or suffered any trauma, and they will not conduct an autopsy.
