During this match Eddie was smashed in the head multiple times, and began to bleed profusely, drenching the ring in crimson and necessitating a very real trip to the hospital after the event for blood loss. In early 1999, he suffered serious injuries when he crashed his car. He was thrown 100 feet and sustained serious injuries to his pelvis. At this time he was enjoying success as the leader of his group in WCW, feuding with nephew _Chavo Guerrero_ .

With wife, Vickey, father of Shaul (b. 1990), Sherilyn (b. 1996), and Kaylie Marie (b. 2002).
