This was to compensate for the original marriage (in City Hall in 1992), when they didn't have much money. Their daughter Stephanie was the flower-girl. Attended Ryerson Polytechnic University in Toronto, Ontario. David's early interest was in music - rock 'n roll music. He was front man for a band. David briefly quit high school to play with the band full time. At one point was working in a belt factory. Auditioned for the world-renowned Stratford Shakespearean Festival in Stratford, Ontario and was accepted as a member of its Young Company and was there for two years. Went back to finish high school at 19. Grew up in Milton, but spent much time in the Bahamas, as most of his relatives on his father's side lived there. He is the second of three sons of Arnold Smith, a heating and plumbing wholesaler-contractor, and his wife, Pat, an office manager. David and Nanci's daughter, Stephanie, was born 15 March 1993. He and his wife became U.S. citizens. David and Nanci's son, Wyatt, was born March 3, 2003. Runs the Boston Marathon to raise awareness of youth programs for The Salvation Army.
