His eldest son, Linford, was killed instantly in 1999 in a road accident, while driving to pick up books from Cambridge University. He had just been awarded a Master's Degree in Philosophy from Cambridge. Sources close to Cazenove say he never got over his son's death and started drinking heavily in its aftermath. His father was a brigadier in the Coldstream Guards and wanted Christopher to follow him in his military footsteps. Prior to his collapse after arriving home in London, he had suffered migraines while on a business trip to California. He went into a coma before dying of septicemia. On stage, he starred as Henry Higgins in both British and American productions of "My Fair Lady" from 2005 through to 2008.
