Callum Keith Rennie was born in England, raised in Alberta, Canada and came late to acting - he discovered theatre in Edmonton at the age of 25. Starting out in university radio and working his way to the renowned Shaw Festival, Callum moved to Vancouver and quickly caught the eye of producers and directors. Currently he lives in Vancouver.

Rennie was the first actor offered the role of Alex Krycek on The X-Files but he turned it down because he didn't want to commit to a regular series role at the time. Vocalist Ben Kowalewicz of the popular Canadian punk-rock band Billy Talent has stated that he is his favorite Canadian actor. Rennie played the character Billy Tallent in the Bruce McDonald film Hard Core Logo, which is what inspired the band's name.
