Served in the United States Navy, under the service number 488 29 39, from December 1955 to September 1957. Was released from active duty as a Seaman and discharged from the Inactive Reserves in December 1961. Known for his talent with dialects, his first three years of his career had him playing Latinos, including a three-month stint on "The Brighter Day" as a Cuban heavy. His former wife Yolanda Veloz is the daughter of the dance team, Veloz & Yolanda.
